Trying Out UK Casinos

The future looks good for casinos in the United Kingdom as there is an increasing liberalization in the industry. In 2006, UK casinos generated a total of 11 million and are poised to increase with changes in the law, which paves the way for the creation of new casinos, including what is known as "super casinos." In Scotland and Wales, there seems to be a growth in the number of casinos, sports betting, national lottery, and Internet gambling. The trend is expected to continue in the coming days.

Just recently, UK casinos required visitors to register for membership within 24 hours prior to playing. The method of application is either personally or through writing. Visitors were likewise required to indicate their name and address and attach two valid identifications, one of which bears a photo. This method was designed to keep impulsive gamblers away from the casinos. However, in 2005, it was stopped because many people felt it was already obsolete.

The new British Gambling Act of 2005 provided for the creation of three kinds of casinos namely small, large, and (initially) one "super casino." The casinos are distinguished by their floor size and the capacity of customers as well as the number of slot machines that can be accommodated. Small casinos can carry up to 80 slot machines while large casinos can contain 150 slots. Both of these casinos provide a maximum jackpot of £4,000. Likewise, these casinos will be located in various cities throughout the UK based on certain requirements such as the local community and the possibility of urban regeneration.

The lone super casino, which is likely to be built in the Millennium Dome in London, would accommodate at least 1,250 slot machines offering unlimited jackpot. It will boil down to becoming the largest casino in the whole of Europe.

Aside from London, which has 20 casinos to date, there are other UK casinos extending to the different regions within the country. The largest of all these casinos is the Star City, which is found in Birmingham. The casino contains a total of 46 table games and more than 200 slot machines. Overall, there are more than 140 casinos and gambling related facilities in the whole United Kingdom. As mentioned, all this will change with the new law set in place. The United Kingdom is likewise recognized for sports betting, mostly focusing on horse race and soccer, as well as the growing industry of online betting. Slowly but surely, the United Kingdom is quickly catching up with its European neighbors as far as gambling is concerned.
